Squirrel Removal in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati

January 27th, 2018

Spidey Squirrels are invading homes in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati!!!

Did you Know that squirrels are a lot like Spiderman?  No, they don’t wear red tights and no they can’t shoot spider webs, but they can maneuver a building a lot like Spiderman. Recently I had an encounter with “Spidey Squirrel” at a client’s house in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I was at the client’s house looking for sign of squirrel entry.  I found a hole in an eave of the house so I made my way towards the hole. Suddenly a squirrel shot out of the hole missing my face by a few inches.  The squirrel then leaped two stories from the roof to the ground. When I climbed down off the roof I made my way to the back of the house and wouldn’t you know it, there was Spidey Squirrel.  The squirrel then scampered back to the house and climbed right up the brick towards the roof just like he was Spiderman.

I am often asked by new clients, “If I cut down the tree next to my house, will that prevent squirrels from getting into my house?”.  Although it could help a little, the answer is “No”. In my experience (like my encounter with Spidey Squirrel), squirrels in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati will climb up almost any surface to access a home’s attic, soffits, and chimney. The best option to stop a squirrel from entering your home is not to cut down the beloved family tree.  It is to remove the squirrel.  If trapping a nuisance squirrel is not a job you are interested and/or capable of taking on, don’t worry, Tri-State Wildlife Management has been performing squirrel removal in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati for over 15 years.  Our team will safely and humanly handle your squirrel removal needs. We are a full-service company and specialize in removing wildlife from your property, as well as making proper repairs to restore and protect your property.

Moral of the story is; if you have a tree next to your house that you like, don’t cut it down because you think it will keep squirrels away from your roof line.  Let Spidey Squirrel be a prime example, that if a squirrel has fidelity to your home the best way to stop them is to hire a nuisance wildlife control operator that specializes in squirrel removal.  If you are in the Northern Kentucky, Greater Cincinnati area, Tri-State Wildlife Management is your company for all of your wildlife removal needs.  Call us at (859)635-0037.

Covington, KY Squirrel Removal

For squirrel removal and exclusion in northern Kentucky, call Tri-State Wildlife Management at (859) 635-0037

Covington, KY Squirrel Removal and Exclusion: Are squirrels invading your home and eating away at your soffits and eves? Squirrels can be one of the most destructive home-intruding animals.  They often gnaw on wood, cables or electrical wiring and almost any stored item.  The gnawing of wire is perhaps the scariest damage they do – stripping the insulation from the wires increases the chances of a short and the risk of fire. If a female and young are denning in your attic or a crevice of your home, now is the perfect time to begin a removal and exclusion program. Juvenile squirrels are exploring outside of their den sites independently.  This means that if you have squirrels denning in your home, they can be removed through trapping instead of attempting to retrieve the young by hand. Just last week, extra precautions still had to be taken to ensure all juveniles were accounted for because of their lack of mobility. In addition to their ability to venture outside, mobility might also mean an increase in squirrel noises coming from your attic.

If you suspect squirrels are in your attic, hear noises in the attic or have squirrels crossing the roof, call Tri-State Wildlife Management.  We are experts in eliminating squirrel problems through our squirrel removal and exclusion services.  We can diagnose your problem, remove the squirrels, and provide the necessary repairs to cover holes and construction gaps that are allowing them entry into your home or business.

Erlanger, KY Squirrel Removal (41018): Do you hear noise coming from your attic? Do you hear scratching or running, especially during the daylight hours? If you answered yes to these questions, you may have a squirrel(s) living in your attic. Squirrels can be one of the most destructive home-intruding animals.  They often gnaw on wood, cables or electrical wiring, and almost any stored item.  The gnawing of wire is perhaps the scariest damage they do – stripping the insulation from the wires increases the chances of a short and the risk of fire. Gnawing is exactly how squirrels gain entry into your home in the first place and can chew through most construction materials, including gutter board, soffits, louver vents, siding, and fascia board.

This time of year, Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) is working with many customers who are experiencing squirrel problems. As a full service company, we initiate an Integrated Wildlife Management Program beginning with an inspection and customer education. Tri-State Wildlife Management is oftentimes able to complete an inspection from the outside of a home, since construction gaps used by squirrels for entry begin on the outside, and because trapping ordinarily takes place on the outside of the home. However, attic inspections are also typically done this time of year because many female squirrels have had their young, but the young are not yet able to venture outside. Tri-State Wildlife Management is very adamant about the importance of determining the whereabouts of any juveniles to prevent any animal from getting blocked inside.

Even if the inspection determines that the violating animal is something other than a squirrel, Tri-State Wildlife Management can take care of it. Other wild animals besides squirrels that commonly invade the attic spaces of homes include raccoons, mice, and bats. After a home inspection, TSWM begins the removal and exclusion process. We have a carpenter on staff that effectively excludes wildlife and repairs damages, but also knows and understands the importance of aesthetics.  TSWM also offers prevention, restoration, and cleanup services.

Tri-State Wildlife Management uses a variety of products and methods for repairs, prevention, and restoration.  TSWM seals homes and businesses with specialized wildlife restoration products, installs custom and standard chimney caps, vent screens/coverings, as well as barrier walls and fencing. TSWM provides habitat modification as another preventative technique. We strive for the most humane and environmentally effective techniques for dealing with wildlife problems. Tri-State Wildlife Management’s use of modern innovative methods provides sound wildlife management services to ensure the protection of our customers’ investments and health.

Covington, KY Squirrel Removal (41015): Residents and business owners in the Covington, KY area have been bombarded with winter storms, bringing along dangerous ice and many inches of snow. Local meteorologists are calling for more snow this afternoon into the night. Winter storms can cause quite the headache, and plenty of inconveniences. It often seems that when we are faced with one problem, other issues begin cropping up, sometime related, other times unrelated to the first issue; your furnace may go out, your hot water heater stops working, a home appliance dies, the car won’t start, pipes freeze or burst, etc.

The above mentioned issues are pretty typical, and we hear about them frequently. Another common, but less talked about issue that many people in the Covington, KY area are facing right now is wildlife, especially squirrels, invading their home or business. Tri-State Wildlife Management is receiving many calls from residents and business owners in northern Kentucky and Cincinnati who are experiencing a squirrel invasion.

Now is the time of year where female squirrels are having and raising their young, and many choose to do so in attics of homes and businesses. Attics are ideal den sites for squirrels, especially with juveniles, because of the warmth and dryness that attics provide. Because many female squirrels now have young, Tri-State Wildlife must be extremely careful when implementing a removal and exclusion program. Andrew, Tri-State Wildlife Management’s lead technician, is up to the challenge, though. He has plenty of experience and takes every precaution to ensure no squirrels are left in an attic before entry points are repaired and squirrels are fully excluded.

Tri-State Wildlife Management continues to receive many calls from people in northern Kentucky, including Wilder, who are experiencing a squirrel problem. Squirrels are finding their way into the attics and chimneys of homes and businesses and taking up comfortable residency there. An attic is a much more comfortable den site than a tree, so many squirrels take the opportunity to move in whenever possible. A squirrel will take advantage of any hole on a home the size of a tennis ball or larger, but they usually just chew until they make a hole big enough to fit through.Unfortunately, most homes are susceptible to a squirrel invasion because squirrels can gnaw their way through most construction materials including siding, soffits, fascia board, gutters, and louver vents.

Now is the time of year when squirrels are having young, so Tri-State Wildlife Management must take extra precautions when removing and excluding squirrels from homes. Before inspecting the outside of a home for entry points, Tri-State Wildlife Management’s technician inspects the attic to find any juveniles that may be present. Right now, juvenile squirrels are too young to venture outside, so they cannot be removed in a conventional trapping manner.

Regardless of the circumstance, the courteous staff at Tri-State Wildlife Management works for you to provide a cost effective solution to your squirrel intrusion and/or damage issue. As a full service company, we initiate an Integrated Wildlife Management Program beginning with an inspection and customer education, followed by removal of intrusive wildlife and repair of wildlife damage. TSWM also offers prevention, restoration, and cleanup services.

Tri-State Wildlife Management had a full week coming back from the NWCOA expo. Most work TSWM is doing right now involves squirrels. Each day last week, there was between 2-5 squirrel jobs to work on. Starlings, raccoons, skunks, bats, and rats have also been on the schedule, but not nearly as much as squirrels. Squirrels take advantage of attics, soffits, gutter lines, and chimneys for comfortable nest sites. They can gnaw open a hole on most construction materials, so even the best constructed and maintained home can fall prey to a squirrel invasion.

Squirrels breed between mid-December to early January, so young may be present as early as the very end of January. For this reason, trapping at this time of year must be done very carefully to ensure no juveniles are left inside of a structure with no way out. Young begin venturing outside at about 10 to 12 weeks when they are weaned, which is roughly sometime in April or May. In order to remedy a squirrel problem during a time when young are present, TSWM must often go into an attic to reach juveniles.

If you suspect squirrels are in your attic, hear noises in the attic or have squirrels crossing the roof, you should call Tri-State Wildlife Management.  We are experts in eliminating squirrel problems through our squirrel removal and exclusion services.  We can diagnose your problem, remove the squirrels, and provide the necessary repairs to cover holes and construction gaps that are allowing them entry into your home or business.

Cincinnati, OH – Squirrels Chewing Wires is Fire Hazard: PNC’s Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo is a wonderful Cincinnati tradition that attracts many families this time of year. Unfortunately, the lights (or more specifically, the wires) are also attracting squirrels. The zoo is teeming with squirrels year round, as it’s a wonderful squirrel habitat with an abundance of food thanks to tulip bulbs and visitors’ lunches. Squirrels are notorious chewers, and will chew on just about anything. One of their favorites happens to be electrical wires. Zoo staff is scrambling to replace strands of light ruined by squirrels. For more information on this ongoing issue, click one of the following news links: FOX19, WCPO, Cincinnati.com, NPR.

This news coverage of the squirrel issue at the Cincinnati Zoo’s Festival of Lights brings to the forefront a dangerous problem many people never think about. Anytime a squirrel enters a home or structure with electrical wiring, they create a fire hazard. Squirrels have incisors that continuously grow, and the only way to keep them short is to gnaw. Squirrels gain access to the inside of homes (usually to the attic) by chewing holes through outside construction materials, including siding, gutters, fascia board, shingles, and drip edge. Once inside, they chew on rafters and electrical wiring. For some reason, just as the squirrels are attracted to the lights at the zoo, they are attracted to electrical wiring in homes.

Homeowners and businesses alike should not waste anytime if they suspect a squirrel is getting into their home or building. Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) can determine whether you have a squirrel or other rodent entering your home, and they will take care of the problem for you. TSWM starts with customer education and a full house inspection to determine the culprit and to pin point all entry points and vulnerable areas. TSWM looks for vulnerable areas on your home because they may easily become entry points in the future. TSWM is a full service company, providing removal, exclusion, and repair services, along with habitat modification, restoration, and clean up services when needed.

Now is the perfect time to schedule your home inspection with Tri-State Wildlife Management. Call (513) 853-0037 or (859) 635-0037 to speak with a TSWM team member today.

Squirrel Removal Newport, KY

Newport, KY Squirrel Removal: Squirrels are typical rodents found throughout the Greater Cincinnati area, so typical that it seems you see a squirrel everywhere you look. Squirrels especially thrive in areas with mature nut and fruit bearing trees, and wherever else they can find an easy food source. Many urban and suburban areas are teeming with squirrels, especially in yards with bird feeders or trees. Although squirrels may be nice to look at, they become a major nuisance when they decide to take up residence in the your attic. Squirrels are notorious chewers, and oftentimes gnaw their way right into your attic space.

Few homes are completely exempt the possibility of a squirrel invasion; however, there are many factors that make some homes more susceptible to squirrel entry than others. First, materials used to build a home matter – siding, gutters, shingles, metal, and wood, just to name a few, can all be chewed through by a squirrel. Brick, stone, and cement may be the only building materials safe from squirrel chew. Even on brick and stone houses, wood fascia, gutters, shingles, etc., are all still susceptible. The condition of a home is also important – if your home has weak or rotted areas in need of repair, your house is more vulnerable. In addition, yards with mature trees and bird feeders also attract squirrels to your home. Even with all of these factors to ponder, sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why a squirrel chose your home or business to invade.

Regardless of the reason, Tri-State Wildlife Management is here for you to solve your wildlife problem, whether squirrels are the culprit or another it’s another wild animal, such as raccoons, mice, or bats. TSWM begins with a thorough home inspection and customer education, followed by an Integrated Wildlife Management Program, unique to your situation. The IWMP typically involves trapping and removing the violating squirrels and excluding them from the home. All repairs by TSWM are completed using wildlife grade construction materials to deter other squirrels from chewing in. During your home inspection, TSWM will also point out vulnerable, at-risk areas to your home that are susceptible to future squirrel entry. TSWM is happy to repair these areas of your home also.

Newport, KY Wildlife Removal

Newport, KY Wildlife Removal: Wild animals in the Greater Cincinnati area are actively seeking warm shelter for the cold winter. Although outdoor den sites are typical for many rodents during the hot summer, those same den sites are not ideal this time of year. Oftentimes, raccoons and squirrels seek out shelter in the attics, chimneys, and other crevices of homes and businesses. Bats and mice are also typical residences of attics. If you hear noises in your attic, ceiling, wall, or chimney, you probably have a wild animal(s) in your home.

All homes can at one time or another be vulnerable to wildlife entry; however, homes in need of repair are most at risk. “In need of repair” can mean anything as simple as a loose gutter or shingle, or as complicated as chimney tuck pointing or needing a whole new roof. Due to the historical nature of the homes in Newport, KY, many homes may be in need of some type of repair, be it simple or complicated.

It is important to mention, however, that a home or building may not need any repairs, but is still vulnerable to a wildlife invasion. Many factors play into this, so we’ll explore a few of them here:

First, if wildlife are attracted to your yard, they will be more attracted to your home as well. Mature trees, shrubbery, overgrown landscaping, bird feeders, pet food and garbage cans left outside, etc., all contribute to an increase in wildlife in your yard. If squirrels and raccoons are using your yard as a place to live in the warmer months, they may not look any further than your home as a place to stay for the winter.

Another factor that makes some homes and buildings more vulnerable than others is the type of outdoor construction materials used. Brick is less vulnerable than siding, and wood is typically the most vulnerable. Other building materials are also very important, including chimney capping, fascia, drip edge, etc.

A related factor is the quality of workmanship. In the Greater Cincinnati area, it’s common for builders to not install drip edge on homes. Lack of drip edge gives squirrels enough space to begin gnawing their way into a home. It is also enough space for raccoons to get a grip to start ripping their way in. Lastly, lack of drip edge gives bats or mice enough clearance to enter into a home.

As a full service company, Tri-State Wildlife Management initiates an Integrated Wildlife Management Program beginning with an inspection and customer education, followed by removal of intrusive wildlife and repair of wildlife damage.

When cleanup services are needed or desired, it typically involves the removal of bird, bat, or raccoon droppings, and contaminated debris from attics or other wildlife invaded areas. TSWM also offers dead animal removal services and MUCH MORE.

We strive for the most humane and environmentally effective techniques for dealing with wildlife problems. Tri-State Wildlife Management’s use of modern innovative methods provides sound wildlife management services to ensure the protection of our customers’ investments and health.
