Squirrel Removal Independence, KYGot Squirrels? Are squirrels invading your home? Eating away at your soffits, and eves? Squirrels can be one of the most destructive animals that get inside homes.  They often gnaw on wood, cables or electrical wiring and almost any stored item.  The gnawing of wiring is perhaps the scariest damage they do – stripping the insulation from the wires increases the chances for a short and the risk of fire. We specialize in squirrel removal, call us today  at 513-853-0037 or 859-635-0037.

Tri-State Wildlife Management had a full week coming back from the NWCOA expo. Most work TSWM is doing right now involves squirrels. Each day last week, there was between 2-5 squirrel jobs to work on. Starlings, raccoons, skunks, bats, and rats have also been on the schedule, but not nearly as much as squirrels. Squirrels take advantage of attics, soffits, gutter lines, and chimneys for comfortable nest sites. They can gnaw open a hole on most construction materials, so even the best constructed and maintained home can fall prey to a squirrel invasion.

Squirrels breed between mid-December to early January, so young may be present as early as the very end of January. For this reason, trapping at this time of year must be done very carefully to ensure no juveniles are left inside of a structure with no way out. Young begin venturing outside at about 10 to 12 weeks when they are weaned, which is roughly sometime in April or May. In order to remedy a squirrel problem during a time when young are present, TSWM must often go into an attic to reach juveniles.

If you suspect squirrels are in your attic, hear noises in the attic or have squirrels crossing the roof, you should call Tri-State Wildlife Management.  We are experts in eliminating squirrel problems through our squirrel removal and exclusion services.  We can diagnose your problem, remove the squirrels, and provide the necessary repairs to cover holes and construction gaps that are allowing them entry into your home or business.

Bat Removal Tri-State Wildlife Management: If you’ve ever had to rid your home of bats, you’re not alone. Even celebrities aren’t immune to bat invasions. Ironically, Ozzy Osbourne is dealing with this issue right now. Thirty three years ago, Osbourne bit off the head of bat that a fan threw on stage. He thought it was a fake, but instead, he had to go through some very real rabies shots.  According to Blabbermouth, during a renovation of a home in Buckinghamshire, England, evidence of bats was discovered. England has stringent bat translocation laws that must be obeyed, and illegally removing bats could end in a $7,000 fine per bat. For more on this story, read the full Blabbermouth article here: OZZY OSBOURNE Must Pay $27,000 To Rid His Home Of Bats.

Ft. Mitchell, KY Raccoon Removal

Tri-State Wildlife Management is fully licensed and insured, and we stand behind all our work

Ft. Mitchell, KY Raccoon RemovalAttics are ideal den sites for raccoons, providing warmth and protection from the elements. During the winter, they become less active, and in severe cold or during a hard winter storm, they may stay in their den for many days. Typically, February is the beginning of raccoon mating season, extending into March. Most raccoon litters are born in April or May, but as late as August. Young typically stay with the female through their first winter and then disperse the following spring. Tri-State Wildlife Management understands the importance of the timing of a raccoon trapping program, always being aware and taking precautions when juveniles may be present.

It is surprising to many home or business owners that a raccoon can easily gain access to their roof and attic, but raccoons have excellent climbing abilities. It is very common to see dark smudge marks on a downspout of a home where a raccoon has been climbing to gain access to an attic. Unfortunately, raccoon damage doesn’t end with a little bit of discoloration on a downspout; raccoons wreak havoc on shingles, gutters, soffits, fascia, and louver vents in an (usually successful) effort to gain access to the attic. Tri-State Wildlife Management understands the persistence and strength of raccoons, so we only use the top of the line wildlife grade construction materials when excluding raccoons from a home and making the necessary repairs.

Raccoons also make a mess of the inside of attics, both by ripping insulation and creating foul latrines.  If coming in contact with a raccoon latrine, safety precautions must be taken. Raccoons are the most common carriers of raccoon roundworm, a parasite that can be passed to humans, although small children are most vulnerable. The larvae of the worm goes through muscles and organs, potentially causing a serious infection that can lead to death, although this is rare.  When necessary or requested, Tri-State Wildlife Management provides attic clean-outs, safely removing contaminated insulation and replacing it with new insulation.

Tri-State Wildlife Management strives for the most humane and environmentally effective techniques for dealing with wildlife problems. Tri-State Wildlife Management’s use of modern innovative methods provides sound wildlife management services to ensure the protection of our customers’ investments and health.

Bats Tri-State Wildlife Management

Tri-State Wildlife Management – Protecting You, Your Property, and Your Investment

Newport, KY Bat Removal (41071): In the Newport, KY area, bats typically hibernate the winter long, the exception being warmer winter days, when you may spot a bat(s) outside. Bats often take advantage of the comfort of attics and chimneys, both in the winter and the summer. Crevices of homes make perfect hibernation spots in the winter and maternity colonies or roost sites in the summer. With spring right around the corner, now is the time to begin thinking about taking care of any bat issues you have had in the past. If you had a bat problem last year, you will have one again this year.

Springtime is a good time to remove and exclude bats from your home or business – bats will be out of hibernation, but juveniles will not be born until May. Juveniles may be born as late as July.  Once May comes around with the potential for young, full bat exclusion falls into a blackout period. During this time, construction gaps and secondary entries can be repaired on structures, but it is important to always keep a main entry open for bats to fly in and out. Even if you think you’re sure all bats are out, juveniles too young to fly can still be present in the structure. Sealing them in is both a major legal and ethical issue, as well as a smelly one for homeowners. Total bat exclusion can restart again usually in mid to late August, but the date fluctuates from year to year. Tri-State Wildlife Management always checks with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources bat biologist before starting full bat exclusion in the late summer/early fall.

Bats are great mammals to have around. If you’ve ever observed a bat feeding at twilight, you already know why – they eat a variety of flying insects, including mosquitoes. Despite the advantages of having bats around, there are many serious disadvantages to having them in your home. First, they can create significant damage to structures. Bats create foul latrines, made up of both guano and urine that cause a horrible odor, soil insulation, and can weaken the structure. When entering and exiting a structure, bats defecate, leaving staining along the home. In addition, they leave black, oily rub marks at entries.

Bats also pose health/hygiene concerns including rabies, histoplasmosis, and bat bugs. When bats transmit rabies, it is most typically through a bite. If bitten, the bat should always be tested if it can be caught. If the bat is not caught, or if it tests positive for rabies, rabies shots must be taken. Without treatment, rabies ends in death. Sometimes a bat is found in the living space of a home. If the bat had access to children or anyone who may not know/may not be able to communicate that they’ve been bitten, rabies shots are encouraged. Although the most serious, rabies is not the most common threat that bats pose. Histoplasmosis is a common lung disease caused by a fungus that grows on guano. It is important to always wear the proper protective gear when in the same vicinity as bat guano, as the fungus is easily disturbed. Although bat bugs pose no serious health threat, just like bed bugs, they are a parasitic nuisance that nobody wants to live with.

Raccoon removal Erlanger, KY

Raccoon Removal Erlanger, KY: Raccoons are opportunistic creatures, taking advantage of a wide variety of foods and den sites. Raccoons are prevalent in cities and suburbs because of the abundance of food and denning options. It is a common myth that a decrease in natural habitats and increased urbanization threatens raccoon populations. The truth is that raccoons thrive where they can live in close proximity to humans. Raccoons have many easy food sources when living near humans, including dumpsters, garbage cans, pet food, etc.  Attics, chimneys, crawlspaces, sheds, brush piles, and underneath decks and porches are all common man made den sites for raccoons.

Not giving raccoons access to food and shelter are the two most important ways to prevent or resolve a raccoon issue. Garbage cans should be secured and left inside when at all possible, and pet food should never be left outside. Inspecting your home for at risk areas and keeping up on home repairs can go a long way in keeping a raccoon out of your home’s attic and crawlspaces. Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) provides thorough home inspections, both to ensure no wildlife is entering your home or business, and to pinpoint raccoon entry points if there is already an issue. If you have a raccoon issue, TSWM removes and excludes them from your home or business. TSWM also installs wildlife deterrent chimney caps to prevent raccoons or other animals from entering.

Tri-State Wildlife Management Groundhog Removal Crestview Hills, KY (41017)

Groundhog - Tri-State Wildlife Management

Groundhog Removal Crestview Hills, KY: Famous weather predicting groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow yesterday, dooming us to another six weeks of winter. Groundhogs can hibernate from October to April; however, they do make an appearance in early February. Early in February, male groundhogs begin emerging from their burrows to scout out female groundhogs. Females typically begin doing the same about a week after their male counterparts. Neither strays far from their burrows.

If you had a groundhog problem last year, it is very likely it will continue this spring. Groundhogs are easiest to trap when bait isn’t competing with fresh vegetation, so now, when groundhogs are surfacing to scope out mates, is an opportunity to trap and remove nuisance groundhogs. Although right now their primary aim isn’t to find food, if it’s available, they often take advantage of it. It is more challenging to trap groundhogs in the spring and summer when there is an abundance of fresh food sources.

If you happen to see a groundhog come out of its burrow, or if you had a groundhog problem last year that was never resolved, call Tri-State Wildlife Management. We can take care of your groundhog problem now during this short window of opportunity!

Cincinnati Swallows

February 1st, 2015

Call Tri-State Wildlife Management for any Bird Problem, Including Swallows or Chimney Swifts. (859) 635-0037 Serving Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana.

Cincinnati Swallows: Swallows, although beautiful little birds, can make an ugly mess on any overhang-type structure such as eaves, porch roofs, and underneath decks. Bird Barrier offers three different ways to repel the birds. All are safe and don’t impact the birds themselves. Mud swallows build nests from mud, and while it is an impressive feat, the mud and droppings from the birds create quite a mess on the building and the ground.

The rule-of-thumb is that their corner must be eliminated, and the deterrent must keep them out of the protected area they desire. Bird Barrier offers three products that will prevent swallows from building their mud nests; StealthNet, BirdSlide and Bird-Shock Flex-Track. Tri-State Wildlife Management is a certified Bird Barrier installer.

As a reminder, swallows are a federally-protected species, and completed nests may not be disturbed at any time between February 15 and September 1 (without a special permit), so you must take preventative measures quickly before our little feathered friends make a mess of your roost!

Tri-State Wildlife Management Skunk Cold Spring KY

Skunk Removal Cold Spring, KY: For about the last month, skunks in our area have been dormant, laying low and waiting out the cold weather. Late January marks the beginning of the skunk mating season in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area. The onset of breeding season means skunks will begin traveling more frequently and further in search of a mate. Typically skunks stay in a 1/2 to 2 mile diameter area, but during mating season, a male may travel 4 to 5 miles a night. Due to increased travels, you will likely start seeing more skunks hit on the roads.  You will also begin smelling skunk musk for a variety of reasons related to an increase in travels. First, when a skunk is hit on the road, their anal glands that store their musk rupture; second, skunks in unfamiliar territory encounter dogs, cats, raccoons, etc., and they spray to protect themselves; third, a male skunk may spray another suitor to ward him off, or a female may spray a male if uninterested.

Skunk musk can be smelled from a mile away. In addition, if an animal or area has been sprayed by a skunk, it will linger for quite some time. This can make it difficult for businesses and homeowners to determine whether they actually have a skunk problem. So, how do you know if you have a skunk problem?  Customers typically call Tri-State Wildlife Management with a skunk problem either after smelling strong skunk spray or after seeing one. Skunks typically live under man made structures such as porches, stoops, sheds, and decks. Sometimes, customers don’t even realize that there is a hole dug out from under the bottom of their porch for animal entry, and oftentimes even if they do, customers assume chipmunks are the culprit.

Tri-State Wildlife Management can take care of your skunk problem for you. Our courteous staff works for you to provide a cost effective solution to your skunk intrusion and/or damage issue. As a full service company, we initiate an Integrated Wildlife Management Program beginning with an inspection and customer education, followed by removal of intrusive skunks and repair of skunk damage. TSWM also offers skunk deodorizing services as well as prevention services, including habitat modification and barrier wall and fencing installation.

We strive for the most humane and environmentally effective techniques for dealing with wildlife problems. Tri-State Wildlife Management’s use of modern innovative methods provides sound wildlife management services to ensure the protection of our customers’ investments and health. TSWM is fully insured, and we stand behind all of our work.
