Risk of Rabies in Bats

May 11th, 2017

For bat removal and exclusion, call Tri-State Wildlife Management at (859) 635-0037.

If a bat has entered the living space of your home, know the risk of rabies in bats, and how to safeguard your family.

The good of having bats around is outweighed by the bad if they decide to roost in your attic or enter your home. Bats are more likely to enter the living space of your home if they are roosting in your attic. As they are prominent carriers of rabies, this is a problem that should be addressed. If there is any chance at all that a bat bit someone, precautions must be taken. If the bat is caught without damage to its head, it can be tested for rabies.

FOX 19 recently covered a story in which a bat tested positive for rabies in Clermont County, Ohio. The bat was found by a child outside of a home, and thankfully, no one was bitten. “Anytime there is suspected contact, the animal is brought in for testing if it can be captured,” said Clermont County Public Health spokesperson Keith Robinson. It is important to test the bat for rabies if there is any chance at all of a bite, because once rabies symptoms begin, it is fatal. Prompt diagnosis allows for bite victims to receive life-saving shots. It is important to vaccinate pets against rabies, as they are far more likely to contract it from a wild animal, such as a raccoon, bat, etc.

Most humans are not in contact with wild animals that are potentially rabid, so a human vaccine is not common. If a bat happens to enter the living space of your home, the health of your household needs to be taken seriously. Bat bites can go easily undetected. If the bat had potential access to any sleeping person, child, a person with sensory or mental impairment, or anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol, then the bat should be tested. If the bat is not caught, or if its head is injured beyond testing capability, then rabies shots should be administered in a timely manner, before symptoms can set in.

Unfortunately, rabid wild animals are not so uncommon. Ohio reported 41 rabies cases in 2016, 36 of which were in bats, and 5 in raccoons. More information can be found at www.ccphohio.org.

In order to prevent these unsanitary, unsafe conditions, bat should be permanently removed and excluded. Call Tri-State Wildlife Management today to set up an inspection appointment (859) 635-0037

Bat Removal from Attic

Florence, KY Bat RemovalBats are useful mammals to have around, as they are a great, natural way to control flying insects such as mosquitoes. More and more people are setting up bat houses in their yard to encourage bats to feed on mosquitoes which carry a variety of viruses harmful to humans (including zika virus and malaria). The good of having bats around is outweighed by the bad if they decide to roost in your attic. If it is not caught, then rabies shots must be administered in case rabies is contracted. After rabies symptoms appear, it is too late for the shots to work. Bats also create latrines at their roost site which can cause histoplasmosis in humans. In order to prevent these unsanitary, unsafe conditions, bat should be permanently removed and excluded.

Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) specializes in bat removal and exclusion in the Northern Kentucky area. Many homes and buildings are susceptible to bat entry, as bats can squeeze through a hole smaller than a dime. For this same reason, it is very difficult to permanently exclude them from your residence or business. TSWM has the experience and expertise to rid your home of bats for good. Technicians inspect your entire home to identify entries as well as vulnerable areas. Our goal is to ensure bats will never again gain access into your home to roost, so we are sure to do a thorough job of repairing entries and securing at risk areas. Our work is not only effective, but it is also aesthetically pleasing. We take pride in our ability to permanently exclude bats while maintaining (or improving) the beauty of a home. Materials used are of highest quality, able to withstand not only weather and the elements, but also attempted wild animal entry. Materials used by construction and roofing companies do not take wild animal entry into account. The difference could mean thousands of dollars spent in future wildlife removal and repair.

Some of the telltale signs that you have a bat problem include dark marks near their entry point and bat guano below an entry point. You may also see bats leaving their roost at dusk to feed on flying insects. Bats can often go undetected by property owners and residents, so it may be years before you realize you have a bat problem. At that point, you may be dealing with generations of bats that often use the same roost year after year. In some of the worst cases, you may smell bat latrines (pile of guano and urine) from a living area, or notice a stain on the ceiling or wall. Bat waste can cause histoplasmosis in humans, so safe cleanup procedures and material should always be used.

Tri-State Wildlife Management – Northern Kentucky Bat Control Company

April 25th, 2017

Tri-State Wildlife Management is a Northern Kentucky Bat Control Company, offering bat inspections, removal, exclusion, repair, prevention, and cleanouts. Call us today at (859) 635-0037

Bats are great mammals to have around, as they hunt mosquitoes and other insects at dusk, just when insects’ presence are at their climax. However, bats become unwelcome guests when they find a nice comfortable home in your home or business, entering through construction gaps, unsecured louver vents, chimneys, or any hole larger than 3/8 inches. If your home or business is occupied by bats, you may witness bats going in and out, or bat droppings (guano) underneath the bats’ main entrance(s). Homes and buildings are great places for bats to use as hibernating sites and as maternal roosts (a place to raise their young before they are able to fly).

Northern Kentucky Bat Control Company

What should you do if you find yourself sharing your home or business with bats? Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) is your solution to your bat problem. Our courteous staff will work for you to provide a cost effective solution to your bat intrusion or damage issue. As a full service company, we initiate an Integrated Management Plan beginning with a full bat inspection and customer education followed by bat removal and exclusionclean-up, repair/restoration and prevention. The removal process used by TSWM allows for bats to exit your attic while preventing reentry. During this process, no bats are harmed and they easily find another place to lodge.

Bats are protected under federal and state law; however, TSWM has the expertise and experience to offer legal and humane exclusions and repairs. A bat’s seasonal cycle, such as roosting and dispersal periods, affect how and when they can be removed from your home or business. For example, TSWM will not seal up the main bat entry into your attic if juveniles are too young to fly, or if bats are hibernating. In both circumstances, bats will be trapped inside, causing unnecessary death, as well as an associated odor. In the winter, full bat exclusion is not permissible until mild nighttime temperatures return in early spring. Sometimes we experience a 1-2 week warm spell in the winter. If this happens, TSWM can take the opportunity to fully exclude bats. When temperatures warm up, bats leave their hibernation site to hunt, therefore ensuring no bats are trapped inside.

The adult females in a bat colony have not born pups just yet, but we are nearing that time. April is the perfect time to exclude bats from your home, before pups are born. After young are born, TSWM can continue preliminary exclusion work; however, the full exclusion process must be out on hold until all juveniles are able to fly.

Since bats are persistent, they often attempt to use new entry points into a structure after their main entry is sealed. Tri-State Wildlife Management offers effective solutions to this issue as part of your Integrated Management Plan. The slightest construction gap or vulnerable area on your home can become another bat entry, so TSWM repairs and seals all at-risk areas. All attics if not sealed properly run the risk of needing bat removal at one time or another. A contractor’s or homeowner’s repairs and materials may not keep bats out of your home. Wildlife grade materials properly installed by TSWM are guaranteed. When addressing a bat issue in your home or business, best practices should always be used. The experienced professionals at Tri-State Wildlife Management will provide you with a cost effective solution to your bat issue.

To resolve your bat issue before young are born, call Tri-State Wildlife Management today to set up an inspection appointment. (859) 635-0037

How to Get Rid of Bats

Bats become a nuisance when they roost in large numbers in houses and businesses. Despite their usefulness, discovering or even suspecting bats living in your home or business is unsettling. Due to the breeding and roosting habits of bats, timing the removal of a bat colony is crucial to both the success of the exclusion as well as its legality. Tri-State Wildlife Management has the experience and expertise to seal entry and exit points without trapping bats inside.  Right now is a great time to fully exclude bats since females have not had their young. Once pups are born, bat entry and exit points cannot be sealed until juveniles can fly. At the time pups are born, Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) can begin the exclusion process, but it cannot be completed fully until we can be sure all juveniles can fly.

How to Get Rid of Bats: Tri-State Wildlife Management’s technicians are thoroughly trained in bat eviction/venting procedures and educate their customers regarding the best solution to rid their property of a bat invasion. The process starts with a meticulous inspection of the property designed to identify structural defects, as well as current and potential bat entry points that lead into the interiors of the structure. The inspection is intended to assist in the evaluation of the overall bat colony within the building.

In addition to removal/exclusion services, Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) also offers full and partial attic cleanouts. TSWM employees are trained in safe and effective methods of removing bat guano and contaminated insulation. Due to the risk of exposure to diseases such as histoplasmosis, proper protective gear and equipment is vital to a safe and effective cleanout.

Northern Kentucky Bat Control

Northern Kentucky Bat Control: Since warm weather is here to stay, Tri-State Wildlife Management (TSWM) is currently conducting bat inspections and bat exclusions on houses, multi-unit buildings, and businessesNow is the perfect time to take care of any bat problem you may have before female bats begin having young.

Bat exclusion work involves sealing and repairing all current bat entries and exits, as well as all other construction gaps on your home. TSWM repairs all construction gaps on your home because they are areas susceptible to future bat entry. Once bats are prevented from using their current entry and exit points, they will attempt to gain access to the structure by other means. Sealing up vulnerable areas prevents bats from gaining access back into your home.

The same principles apply to condos and apartment complexes, schools, churches, hospitals and more. All at-risk/vulnerable areas should be sealed so that bats do not find another way into the structure once excluded from using their main entry points. Although TSWM always strongly advises going about bat exclusion in this way, the decision is ultimately up to the customer. Unfortunately, if other potential entries are not sealed, bats almost always find their way back in. It is much more cost effective to seal up the home before bats can reenter.

TSWM also offers full and partial attic cleanups. TSWM employees are trained in safe and effective methods of removing bat guano and contaminated insulation. In addition to the foul smell and unsanitary conditions, accumulated bat droppings can support the growth of histoplasmosis, an airborne fungal disease very common in the Cincinnati tri-state area. Due to the risk of exposure to diseases such as histoplasmosis, proper protective gear and equipment is vital to a safe and effective cleanup. For more information concerning bat exposure visit, the Center for Disease Control Website at: www.cdc.gov. TSWM is dedicated to resolving our customers’ bat problems and preventing bat issues in the future. Tri-State Wildlife Management is fully licensed and insured, and we stand behind all our work.

Bat Removal in Cold Spring, KY

April 7th, 2017

For bat removal in Cold Spring, KY or anywhere in northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, or southeast Indiana, call Tri-State Wildlife Management at (859) 635-0037. Put our experience and expertise to work for you!

Bat Removal in Cold Spring, KY

Tri-State Wildlife Management is fully insured, and we stand behind all our work.

Bat Removal in Cold Spring, KY:  If you suspect or know that bats are living in your attic or chimney, now is the time to mitigate your bat problem. The weather is now steadily warm enough that bats are frequently leaving their roost sites at dusk to feed on insects. Many bats choose to roost in the attics or chimneys of homes or buildings. You may suspect you have a bat problem if you see bat droppings at a bat entry point, or below it on the ground. If that isn’t the case, you may witness bats flying out of your home around dusk. Depending on the time of year, you may also hear noises coming from your attic or chimney. Sometimes noises signify a bat problem, but it may mean you may have another animal(s) invading your home.

Having bats in your home is an unsettling and serious problem, even if they are confined to the attic. Not only do they urinate and defecate anywhere they roost, causing staining and odor problems which are difficult to remove, they are associated with diseases which are dangerous to humans, including rabies and histoplasmosis (a lung disease caused by the spores of fungus which grow on their droppings or guano). While bats are very beneficial to humans because of their affinity for many flying insects, such as mosquitoes, if they find their way into your home and take up residence, they can also be some of the most destructive, dangerous, and expensive wildlife to control.

As mentioned earlier, if you suspect you have bats in your attic or chimney, now is the time to act. Like managing all nuisance wildlife, timing is everything. In order to exclude bats from your home, it must be warm enough for them to leave their roost to feed. To ensure all bats have left your home, Tri-State Wildlife Management insists that several warm evenings pass before fully excluding them. Although we may have a cold spell here or there in April, if a colony of bats is given enough warm days to ensure a full exit, it is safe to begin exclusion work.

Our courteous staff works for you to provide a cost effective solution to your wildlife intrusion and/or damage issue. As a full service company, we initiate an Integrated Bat Management Program beginning with an inspection and customer education, followed by exclusion of  intrusive bats and repair of bat damage. TSWM also offers prevention, restoration, and cleanup services.

Tri-State Wildlife Management uses a variety of products and methods for bat repairs, prevention, and restoration. TSWM seals homes and businesses with specialized wildlife restoration products, installs custom and standard chimney caps, and install vent screens/coverings. TSWM provides habitat modification as another preventative technique. When cleanup services are needed or desired, it typically involves the removal of bat droppings and contaminated debris from attics or other bat invaded areas.

We strive for the most humane and environmentally effective techniques for dealing with bat problems. Tri-State Wildlife Management’s use of modern innovative methods provides sound bat management services to ensure the protection of our customers’ investments and health. Since bats are a protected species, removal should be done by a trained professional, such as our trained technicians.  Tri-State Wildlife Management is Certified Bat Standard Compliant by the National Wildlife Control Operators Association (NWCOA).

How are bats getting in my house?

How are bats getting in my house? For professional bat removal in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Southeast Indiana, call Tri-State Wildlife Management at (859) 635-0037. Put our experience and expertise to work for you!

How are bats getting in my house? It is very upsetting if a bat finds it ways into the living space of your home, and it is unsettling to learn bats are roosting in your attic. Of course the first thing to do is determine how they are entering. We strongly recommend hiring a certified professional to ensure all possible entry points and vulnerable areas are identified. After a thorough home inspection, Tri-State Wildlife Management draws up a findings report that also details a plan of action, including removal, exclusion, and repair (restoration & cleanup when needed). A certified professional also has the experience and expertise needed to make sound ethical and legal decisions. TSWM does not harm any bats during the exclusion and removal process. In addition, TSWM ensures no bats are left in your attic at the time of exclusion.

If a bat(s) is in the living area of your home, it often means it has found a way down from your attic, although an open garage door, window, fireplace, or any construction gap can also allow bats access. It seems unthinkable, but bats can squeeze through an opening as small as 5/8” round or 3/8” x 3/4” long, so often bathroom vents, ceiling lighting, attic access doors, etc. allow bats to enter the living space of your home.

If bats are roosting in your attic, it may be difficult to pinpoint their entry. The presence of bat guano is a telltale sign that an entry point is near. You might spot it on the ground or along an outside wall underneath the opening. Depending on where the entry is, a pile may be found on the roof. Another sign is dark stain at the entry point, left there by bats as they come and go. Bats may have multiple entry points, so it is important to hire a knowledgeable professional to identify all possible entry points as well as identify vulnerable areas on your home to prevent bats from using those as entry points in the future.

For a professional bat inspection and findings report, as well as bat removal and exclusion, call Tri-State Wildlife Management at (859) 635-0037. Put our experience and expertise to work for you!
